For your session, I always recommend thinking about a place that
has meaning to your story. Whether it's a house you grew up in, the park where you got engaged, or the beach because your family loves the ocean.
However, there are so many BEAUTIFUL locations around the state and region and it can be really hard to pick. Here's a guide to help you pick a location for your photo session!

Topsmead State Forest, Litchfield, CT
Topsmead State Forest in Litchfield, Connecticut offers a timeless New England setting with wide open meadows, tree-lined paths, and beautifully preserved stone architecture. At the heart of the property sits a historic English Tudor-style estate home, originally built in the 1920s as a private summer residence, adding a romantic, old-world charm to the landscape. The grounds feel quiet and refined, especially during golden hour when the light moves softly across the fields—making it an ideal location for sessions that feel natural, elegant, and nostalgic.
Sherwood Isle State Park *
Sherwood Island State Park in Westport is a versatile coastal photoshoot location along Long Island Sound, featuring sandy beaches, grassy dunes, tidal marshes, and open fields all within one park. Its mile-long shoreline and unobstructed horizon make it ideal for golden hour and sunset sessions, with soft, reflective light and clean, airy compositions. With a mix of natural textures like driftwood and beach grass plus easy access and ample space, it works well for couples, lifestyle, and editorial-style shoots—especially if you head to the quieter east or west ends for fewer crowds.
White Memorial Conservation Center
A sprawling nature preserve and education center set within over 4,000 acres of protected forest, wetlands, and shoreline around Bantam Lake. It features miles of scenic trails, boardwalks over marshes, and diverse habitats that make it ideal for peaceful, nature-focused photography. With its mix of wooded paths, open fields, and reflective water views, it offers a quiet, rustic backdrop that changes beautifully with the seasons.
Silver Sands
State Park*
Silver Sands State Park in Milford, Connecticut offers a serene coastal setting with sandy beaches, gentle dunes, and sweeping views of Long Island Sound. A scenic boardwalk winds through the marshes, leading to the shoreline and creating a mix of textures perfect for photos. With soft ocean light and open horizons, it’s an ideal spot for sessions that feel airy, relaxed, and effortlessly coastal.
Southford Falls
State Park
In Southbury, Connecticut is a charming, tucked-away spot known for its picturesque waterfall, covered bridge, and peaceful wooded trails. Set along Eight Mile Brook, the park blends natural beauty with a touch of history, once home to an early industrial site. With its flowing water, forested paths, and quiet atmosphere, it’s a beautiful location for sessions that feel intimate, scenic, and a little bit storybook.
Wadsworth Falls
State Park
In Middlefield and Middletown, Connecticut is known for its scenic hiking trails, peaceful woodlands, and two beautiful waterfalls tucked within the landscape. The park’s iconic “Big Falls” cascades over rugged rock ledges, while quieter paths lead to a smaller, more secluded waterfall along the brook. With its mix of flowing water, forested trails, and natural textures, it’s a stunning location for sessions that feel earthy, romantic, and a little adventurous.

Hartford, Connecticut is a timeless and refined setting, blending historic architecture with world-class art. As the oldest continuously operating public art museum in the United States, it features a striking, castle-like exterior and elegant gallery spaces filled with works spanning centuries. With its rich textures, dramatic interiors, and artistic atmosphere, it’s an ideal location for sessions that feel sophisticated, editorial, and effortlessly classic.
Harkness Memorial
State Park*
In Waterford, Connecticut offers a breathtaking coastal setting with sweeping lawns, seaside views, and beautifully manicured gardens along Long Island Sound. At the heart of the estate sits Eolia, a Renaissance Revival mansion that adds an elegant, old-world feel to the landscape. With its blend of ocean light, historic architecture, and refined grounds, it’s an ideal location for sessions that feel romantic, elevated, and timeless.
Devil's Hopyard State Park*
Located in East Haddam, Connecticut. It's a scenic, woodsy escape known for its dramatic Chapman Falls, where water cascades over a series of rugged stone steps. Surrounded by miles of forested trails and the winding Eightmile River, the park offers a mix of natural beauty and quiet seclusion. In Middletown, Connecticut is a grand, early 1900s estate set on over 100 acres of rolling lawns, wooded trails, and thoughtfully designed landscapes. Centered around a stately Colonial Revival mansion, the property blends formal elegance with natural surroundings, originally created as a private summer residence. With its sweeping grounds, classic architecture, and refined atmosphere, it’s an ideal location for sessions that feel timeless, romantic, and elevated.
Elizabeth Park
In West Hartford, Connecticut is a beautifully designed historic park filled with vibrant gardens, winding pathways, and open green spaces. It’s best known for its stunning rose garden—the oldest public rose garden in the United States—along with seasonal blooms that create a colorful, ever-changing backdrop. With its elegant landscaping, charming arches, and soft floral textures, it’s an ideal location for sessions that feel romantic, timeless, and full of natural beauty.
Hidden Valley Preserve
in Washington Depot, Connecticut this is a quiet, scenic escape defined by wooded hills, winding trails, and the gentle flow of the Shepaug River. Spanning hundreds of acres, the landscape features forest paths, small meadows, and beautiful overlooks, along with a picturesque footbridge that crosses the river. With its peaceful atmosphere and natural textures, it’s an ideal location for sessions that feel organic, adventurous, and effortlessly serene.
Wickham Park
Wickham Park Manchester, Connecticut is a beautifully maintained park known for its expansive gardens, open fields, and sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Rachel Girouard Studio
The studio is a 500-square-foot natural light space located at 30 Arbor Street in Hartford, CT 06106. It is a space for creatives with tall, windows and hardwood floors. The space is flooded with soft light throughout the day, is open and versatile and a clean slate to suit your vision. The Studio allows you to create, capture, and host with ease in a beautiful, light-filled environment. It's ideal for photography and video sessions, wedding getting-ready moments, content creation, and small gatherings.

Nikki's studio in Hartford is by far my favorite. It is a bright, modern photography studio designed as a clean, versatile canvas for creative work.
